Pruning Peach & Nectarine Trees

The pruning methods for peaches and nectarines are very much the same. Peaches and nectarines are pruned to either a four leader Spanish vase or to a Espllier trellis, also known as a fruiting wall.

There are two shapes that peaches and nectarines are pruned to.

Peaches and Nectarines bear fruit on one year old wood.

Once the branch has borne it’s crop it will not bear again and it is removed.

It’s very important to get the light into the tree as soon as possible¬†when pruning peach and nectarine trees to mature the one year old wood. If it doesn’t mature properly it tends to die back and disappear.

Please note that our pruning programmes give the general theory related to the pruning activity.
