Pruning a tree to the Solaxe shape

The Solaxe system is a tree training system that was developed by the French and is used all over the world with great success. The Solaxe system allows light to reach all parts of the tree and has revolutionised the industry.   Let’s have a look at the way that a tree is trained to the Solaxe shape.   A tree that has been trained to the Solaxe system consists of a very strong central leader and 18 to 22 bearing branches that are spread around the tree on which the fruit will grow. Apart from the bearing branches, the central leader is kept free of all other growth. The first 40cm from the central leader of each bearing branch is also kept free of growth. This creates a chimney down the centre of the tree that allows light to penetrate through the middle of the tree. See more in the video.
